The Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, celebrated Mass for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Sunday at Holy Family Centre Emerton on 1 July.
Players from the Greater Western Sydney Giants Australian Football League Club joined the celebrations at a lunch held in the Aboriginal Catholic Services Centre following Mass.
The three players conducted a clinic for the children, while an Indigenous dancer also performed.
‘The Aboriginal Catholic Service building was opened and blessed last October, so it was very appropriate to have the first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday Mass held in the parish’, said Parish Priest Fr Edward Dooley SJ.
‘We were privileged to have the Bishop preside over the Mass, and it’s the beginning of what is hopefully a long and rightful connection between the parish and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Mt Druitt region, which is the largest urban Indigenous population in Australia.’
