Jesuit
Mission is hoping to expand the world vision of early primary school students
through its recently released short course, Love and Compassion for the Poor.
The course
aims to teach students about Jesuit Mission's work through stories, pictures,
activities and games.
In this
way, says Jesuit Mission Director Fr Phil Crotty SJ, ‘We hope that students may come to know more about Jesuit Mission's work
for the poor in the developing world.'
Overseen by Jesuit Mission's Stephie Dunstan, the unit was developed in
conjunction with Staff at Xavier
College, Kostka Hall,
including prep teacher Belinda Landini, Early Years Coordinator Bernadette
Williams, and Religious Education Coordinator Anita Davine.
‘The Director of Jesuit Mission, Fr Phil Crotty SJ, and the Assistant
Director of Jesuit Mission, Fr Bill Dwyer SJ, also made valuable contributions
to the unit', says Stephie.
The course looks
at the scope of Jesuit Mission's work, and introduces students to some of the
people who work in its various missions. One of its aims is to engender a
greater respect for non-Christian religions, and to help students gain a wider
vision of life and an open personality through their involvement in Jesuit
Mission.
A
comprehensive Teacher's Manual and Student Workbook have also been developed,
to be used alongside the unit.
This is the
second unit of work on Jesuit Mission available for schools. A Faith That Does Justice, a course for
late primary/early secondary years, has been running in Jesuit schools
throughout Australia
for two years.
