Young
adults from MAGiS will spend time next week in Penola, South Australia,
immersing themselves in the town where Mary MacKillop founded the Josephite
order in 1867.
The
Ignatian young adult ministry will host its first ever winter experience in the
town, with participants staying on a farm nestled in the heart of the
Coonawarra wine region outside Penola.
The key
elements of a MAGIS experience - spirituality, companionship and service - will
be incorporated into the experience. Young adults will have the opportunity to
walk in the footsteps of Mary MacKillop, and will experience the silence of the
caves where Fr Julian Woods, one of Mary Mackillop's closest friends, often went
to pray.
Companionship
will come in the form of the company of other young adults on a spiritual
journey, while the service element will be satisfied with the experience of
farm life and work, where participants will have the opportunity to live out Mary
MacKillop's instruction to 'never see a need without doing something about it.'
'The
combination of planned activities promises an experience where participants can
discover the past, while also throwing themselves fully into the present', says
the National Coordinator of MAGiS, Carmel Taffa.
The Penola
Experience runs from Monday 12 to Friday 16 July. Accommodation, food and
activities are included in the cost of $120.
