St Ignatius'
College, Riverview recently hosted the second East Asia Teaching Conference on Teaching the Ignatian Way.
Eighteen
teachers from Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia and East
Timor attended the five-day conference, which was conducted by Glenn McLachlan,
Riverview's Advanced Teacher Program Co-ordinator, Donna Wedesweiler, Ignatian
Co-ordinator and IT teacher Ian Fairhurst.
The
conference featured workshops on Ignatian Pedagogy, innovations in teaching and
information technology in the classroom. The group also spent time at two other
Jesuit/Ignatian schools in Sydney: Loyola Senior High School, Mount Druitt and
St Aloysius' College, Milsons Point.
This is the second
time that Riverview has hosted and presented a conference on Ignatian teaching
for teachers from East Asia. In November this year, staff from the college will
also present workshops at schools in Hong Kong and Manila. The conferences are
an initiative of the Education Ministry of the Australian Province of the
Society of Jesus.
